Who should have General Anesthesia?

People who are afraid of the dentist are the most common patient we see. However, people who "gag" easily, people for whom "Novocaine" doesn't work, or people who need a lot of dental treatment and are too busy for a lot of appointments are good examples of people who have general anesthesia.

Can everyone have General Anesthesia?

Unfortunately, no. People in poor health or young children are not candidates for General Anesthesia.

Is this something new?

No, we've been giving patients general anesthesia for their dental treatment in our office since 1978.

What if my dentist won't give me General Anesthesia?

Many dentists refer their patients to us for certain dental treatments. We refer you back to your dentist for your routine dental care.

Is it Safe?

We have been doing General Anesthesia in our office for over 20 years. However, receiving any medication involves a certain amount of risk. Since we will not give anesthesia to anybody that is a poor health risk, we keep the risk to a minimum. We have all the emergency drugs and emergency equipment available in our office.

How long will I be "out"?

Depending on the type of treatment needed, anywhere from a few minutes to 2 hours.

I have to take daily medication , can I still have General Anesthesia?

It depends on the particular type of medication you take and your medical history. Your physician must approve your receiving anesthesia in our office, but it is up to our anesthesiologist to make the final decision.

Who does the General Anesthesia?

An anesthesiologist will do the general anesthesia for you, while Dr. Brustin does your dentistry.

What dental work can I have under General Anesthesia?

Almost all, from simple fillings to root canals to extensive crowns and bridges. Even cosmetic dentistry.

Do I have to have General Anesthesia?

Definitely not. We can do your dental work without using anything. Or we can use a local anesthetic ("Novocaine"), or use Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) or Laughing Gas and "Novocaine". We can also offer oral sedation. We will do your dental work in any way that will make you as comfortable as possible.
